
Gary Miller serves as the band teacher at St. Edward School and brings a wealth of experience as a performer and educator. A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Miller studied trombone at Penn State University and Duquesne University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. At Duquesne, he trained under the renowned Mathew Shiner, whose influence has shaped the careers of many successful musicians in cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville. In addition to his role at St. Edward, Mr. Miller is the director of the Tennessee Youth Jazz Rock Ensemble and has taught private music lessons for over 25 years.
As a professional freelance musician, Mr. Miller has performed in a wide range of settings including live concerts, studio recordings, television shows, and theatrical productions. His work has taken him to prestigious venues such as the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the Grand Ole Opry, TPAC, Ocean Way Studios, and Disney. He has played with artists across diverse genres—jazz, country, orchestral, and contemporary Christian music. Mr. Miller is also the organist at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and is actively involved with marching bands, youth orchestras, and jazz ensembles throughout the region. He is a dedicated member of the Local 257 Musicians Union and continues to inspire students with his passion for music.
